Electrician
Electrician » Role
The role of an Electrician is very important in either a commercial or residential environment. An electrician is required to do a variety of jobs like fit, test and repair electrical circuits and wiring.
Your work may include fitting a shower in a customer’s home to laying the foundation of the wiring in a commercial enterprise. A very important role of an electrician is to provide safe wiring and cabling for businesses and homes. These have to be compliant with very strict safety measures.
You may be asked to fit wiring internally for example within walls and for that you may have to work around certain pipes so having a good understanding of building construction can be useful.
Typically in offices you will provide cabling for computers and electrical appliances.
You will also have to work from pre-conceived plans to fit wiring, sockets and plug points or even carrying out installations known as the initial installation or the first fix. That is, fitting wiring along wall cavities and through ceilings and floors or fitting fuse boxes, circuit breakers and earth provisions. The second fix comes in handy when you connect sockets, switches, light fittings and appliances.
Your role in commercial projects will be on a larger scale. For instance, you have to install fire alarms, office equipment, power supplies and computer networks or fixing faults highlighted by inspections whenever they are due.
There are a number of tools that an electrician will need to use; these include hacksaws, knives, pliers and screwdrivers. There are also a number of power tools that you will need to use. All of these have to be used within strict health and safety guidelines but your electrical course will cover all of this.
