Career opportunities are plenty. There are specific parts of the UK where there is a high demand for electricians. A good way to check the competition for electricians is to look at your local Yellow Pages or check online through directories or Google.
As an electrician the types of companies you could work for include electrical contractors, building firms, manufacturing and engineering companies, kitchen, bathroom and shop fitting companies, local authorities and the national highway system.
Self employment is also a very real option for you. A number of experienced electricians choose to work for themselves after they have built up a good database of customers or recurring business. Working for yourself can be very challenging but rewarding at the same time. The financial benefits can be very lucrative however to achieve this you will need to put in a lot of hours and hard work.
It can also be very risky; your income can vary month to month. Some electricians choose to set up a large business employing other plumbers.
If you choose not to go the self employed route there are plenty of opportunities for you to move up the career ladder. As you gain experience and confidence you can move into supervisory or management roles in all areas of electrical work. You many also find work in electrical estimating and contract management.
